The products that take design seriously and incorporate it from the start are going to be the ones that connect with people in a way that really makes an impact in the world. As more and more products are built in this manner, people are going to notice the pattern. Designers will be seen as an essential ingredient in any startup team. The perception of design as decoration will start to show cracks.

The whole article is a must read.

One of my favorite things about doing The Great Discontent is getting to interview people that I look up to creatively. This week is no exception. Dan Cassaro (aka Young Jerks) is one of my favorite typography-focused designers. I love how his sense of humor and love for music comes across in his work. On top of that, Dan’s a great guy to boot so do yourself a favor and go read his interview…

Last bit of news for the day… Duet.me launched this morning. I had the pleasure of realigning the original teaser site by Dan Rubin. Go check out the site and download the app. It’s totally rad.

Again, the site is responsive.

The new crushlovely.com launched today, which I had the pleasure of designing and developing along with the team at Crush.

And yes, it’s responsive.

Had some fun with this week’s TGD header piece. Photo by Mike Bullock and design by me.

Go and read Phil’s interview. It’s really interesting…

I feel quite honored to have Food Sense (foodsense.is), a client site I finished back in July, featured in .net Magazine as their Mobile Site of Month (October 2011 #220).

Food Sense

This morning I launched a new site called Food Sense for a fantastic new client from Philly. In a nutshell:

Food Sense is a unique resource for thoughtful, food-loving eaters and home cooks who have a palate for plant-based eating - for themselves or their loved ones; three days a week, or every day of the year.

I’ve been working on it for the past several weeks and I’m excited to share it with the world. I enjoyed having the opportunity to go from branding consultation all the way through to the design, development and launch of the site.

We went the responsive route with the layout and I’m glad we did. It gave me an opportunity to test out the concept on a large site. It is more work but I love the results. The layout beautifully adapts to the browser/screen size, including the slideshow on the homepage (which proved to be an interesting challenge). I really believe responsive web design is here to stay…

I’m not a vegan/vegetarian but constantly seeing all these dishes while I was working sure made me hungry. I’m looking forward to incorporating some of the recipes in our meal rotation.

Go check it out! Get some food sense :)

When a job is done, we’re left with experience, new skills, and a sharpened perception. Do work that you enjoy so you can be good at what you love. Frank [Chimero] summed that up nicely by saying:

“Daft Punk got to record the Tron soundtrack because they’d already recorded the Tron soundtrack.”

If I want to get hired to do something, I should already be doing it.

This article is seriously one of the best pieces I’ve read in recent months. If you are a creative person, go read it now.
